EXCERPTS FROM COMMITTEE MEETING: DECEMBER 2009 Thu 10-Dec-2009 |
An electronic gate will be installed at Hunstrete for disabled members within the next twelve months.
The club’s carp record has been ratified at 34lbs 14ozs - caught by J. White from Bristol in an official club 24 hour carp match.
A dam inspection (10 yearly) is now due and has been arranged for Hunstrete. This is a legal requirement of the Reservoirs Act and all costs have to be borne by the club.
An extra Fishery Management meeting has been arranged for January to consider requirements for Newton Park, all lakes at Hunstrete and Lydes Farm - in order to maintain/improve quality of sport and all that this will involve.
All lake levels are now at full capacity after recent heavy rainfalls.
Twenty seven members attended the Hunstrete Management Day and thanks were recorded for all the help.
Thirteen pairs fished the “Old-Uns and Young-Uns” match held on Withy Pool.
Dave Crookes and Terry Fell (Angling Trust) are to join the British Waterways Steering Group to consider amendments to mooring arrangements for boats.
A competition will be held for members to design a new club logo.

BAA sends resolution to National Federation Of Anglers that all member clubs pay a levy of £50 to start a fund to fight pollution.
Barbel weighing 10lbs 2ozs caught at Claverton by member Mr M. Passingham.
A quote of £1,300 accepted for a full survey of the Hunstrete site. (This was the start of work associated with Bridge and Withy Pools)
The National River Authority (now the Environment Agency) surveyed fry survival on the Avon at Newbridge. Good numbers reported of all species, especially roach.
Possibilities of constructing a bridge across the Mill Stream at the bottom of the Island at Claverton.
40 YEARS AGO - EXCERPTS FROM COMMITTEE METING: DECEMBER 1969
The Local River Authority not giving enough attention to our concerns about water extraction from the Avon. The matter will not be allowed to rest.
Netting of the canal unsuccessful due to excessive weed.
Agreed to join APRS (Avon Preservation and Restocking Society) who would complete all our netting requirements. (Older locals will remember the APRS with great affection. A magnificent group of volunteers who worked unstintingly to improve local angling especially on the River Avon. Now, sadly, no longer in existence)
Agreed to make our waters on the Avon available for an All England Championship.
A Public Inquiry announced for February 1970 to consider proposed Bath Marina scheme.
Canal to be treated with Reglone to disperse excess surface weed.
