GREAT FISHING - AND SO NEAR!! Thu 10-Jun-2010 |
JUSTIN MORGAN, from Keynsham, is determined to catch his first 30lb carp soon and is so confident he can do so at the Hunstrete Main Lake.
And by fishing four sessions on alternate days, he missed his target by just SIX OUNCES, with a new personal best weighing 29lbs 10ozs.

He started his mini campaign by losing the first fish he hooked which in his own words “was a juggernaut of a fish which I believe was mid-thirty”. Sadly the hook pulled after a five minute fight.
However, he soon cheered up when, just forty minutes later, he had another run resulting in a lovely 29lb 02ozs mirror. This was followed an hour later by another “twenty” - 20lbs 10ozs. A good start!!
A further six fish were landed over the next three days weighing in at - 28lbs 12ozs, 28lbs 04ozs,
27lbs 04ozs, 26lbs 02ozs, 24lbs 04ozs - with the final fish being the aforementioned personal best.
All the fish were mirrors and two linears.
If there is any reward for loads of hard work and time being put in then Justin will surely get his “thirty”.
GOOD FOR HIM!!
Justin has taken the trouble to pass on some useful tips for the benefit of less successful anglers and newcomers and they include -
a) Balance your boilies with cork.
b) Use a good freezer bait.
c) Do something different to all the other anglers with your bait. (Use your imagination)
d) Make sure EVERYTHING is pinned down including the hooklink.
e) Try 100% fluorocarbon line on your reels. (Justin’s catch rate has tripled since he started using it.)
“BITE-A-CHUCK” FOR ALAN ON BRIDGE
Now for something completely different over on Bridge Pool where ALAN SHIELDS, from Midsomer Norton, had a real letter day on the “silvers”.
Dropping in at peg 9, Alan fished the top two sections only of his pole with expander pellet over micro pellets and caught so many fish he couldn’t lift his keepnet at the end of the day; having to turn the net over to release the fish.
An estimated total weight of 70lbs was made up of bream to 2lbs and loads of quality roach weighing 10 to 12ozs. Four carp all between 10 and 12lbs took his total weight to well over 100lbs.
Yet another ton-up catch from this fabulous lake. Well done Alan.
THE HUNSTRETE FISHERY IS FOR BATHAMPTON A.A. MEMBERS ONLY AND AN ADDITIONAL SPECIAL DAY PERMIT MUST BE PURCHASED BEFORE FISHING.
