A DISAPPOINTING 24 HOURS
Wed 7-Jul-2010
A combination of extremely hot weather and carp in spawning mode resulting in a lower than hoped for numbers of fish in the Bathampton A.A. 24 HOUR CARP MATCH held on the Hunstrete Main Lake.

At least eleven members had landed thirty pounders in the preceding eight weeks so anticipation was high, but it was not to be, with JAMIE HAWKES winning with just three fish for a total of 51lbs 09ozs.

Given the conditions and general lack of interest from the fish, this was a commendable result and reward for good fishing by Jamie.

He fished at peg 34 for a mirror of 23lbs 07ozs and two commons at 15lbs 10ozs and 12lbs 08ozs.

This prize for the heaviest fish went to OLLY GREEN, with a mirror weighing 24lbs 08ozs. This was a U.K. personal best for him so he had a good result.

RESULTS:

JAMIE HAWKES   Bristol 34     51lbs-09ozs     3 fish
DAVE OWEN      Bristol 38     41lbs           2 fish
S. DAVIES       Bristol 11     40lbs           2 fish
S.HARTREE      Bristol 13     33lbs-02ozs     2 fish
L. WILTSHIRE   Bristol 29     32lbs-07ozs    2 fish
O.GREEN        Bristol   9     24lbs-08ozs   1 fish

A total of 17 carp were landed for a total weight of 301lbs 13ozs (overall average 17lbs 12ozs); and six ‘twenties’ were caught.

As a result of the angler’s generosity, £152 was raised for CLIC Sargent (Caring for Children With Cancer) and a big vote of thanks to the organisers – Steve Pitfield and Roger Morris.
